Who am I and why the hell do I think I’m entitled to add another blog to the millions of blog sites out there?
Well, I’m a writer. And a musician. And a mother. And a domestic abuse survivor. I have a story to tell, wisdom to impart (sometimes, ha!), and so many questions to ask… This is my forum for doing all of those things and I’m grateful that you’re here joining me. (FYI: If you want to know more about why I started head/strong, click here!)
I grew up moving across southern Ontario with my parents and two sisters. I was a shy, stubborn, and anxious kid, but loved to get outside, sing songs, read absurdly long novels, and go to bed early. As a teen and young adult, I
developed significant mental health issues and survived a series of emotionally abusive relationships. I now find myself as a divorced, single mom living in the country about an hour and a half north of Toronto, Ontario.
What keeps me going are my two kick-ass daughters, who have more confidence and creativity than I ever did as a child. I love them fiercely and they are 100% responsible for motivating me to stay strong and be present. Equally fierce is our husky-mix, Kara, who guards me and her “puppies” from all perceived threats. Sometimes I wish she would just calm-the-fuck-down, but mostly I appreciate her intense canine instincts. We have a couple cutie-pie kittens hanging around too, helping me remember to never be too serious about life.
Before I got to this point, I managed to get degrees in music, English, and education, all from what’s now known as Western University. I also have an early childhood education diploma from Loyalist College and worked in child care for many years. Nowadays, I put my academic skills to use teaching piano, tutoring students, and writing.
My life doesn’t look anything like I thought it would, but I’m incredibly thankful to still be around and even more thankful that you’ve joined me here at head/strong.
